You’ve seen a million SOPA/PIPA posts today. This is the most important one.
So glad Clay Shirky is out our side.
Ok, yeah, Google owns You Tube. And Google makes money off the Media Corps through ads like everyone else, but how is it that You Tube had nothing to say about SOPA today? How is it that You Tube wasn’t dark today? I cannot think of a site with more to lose than You Tube. Pirate Bay and the like will find a way around it, but You Tube? Toast. That’s the first site on the chopping black, you know it.
EDIT: Another interesting item is that the Media Corporations fought SO HARD against the Screen Actors Guild in 2008 to gain “re-use” of large chunks of actors’ work WITHOUT PAY TO THE ACTOR so that people could “mash up” the work and pass it around far and wide online.
YES. That is in the SAG TV/Theatrical Basic Agreement. Under 5 minutes of work from an under-90-minute piece and 10 minutes for a 90-minutes-and-over piece.
So, as far as I can see, the Media Corporations got bloody in an effort to defend YOUR rights to spray bits and pieces of “their material” all over the Internet as “promotion” for their projects.
Didn’t I get that right?
Or did all the actors get reamed for no reason?
