Entertainment is not a growth industry.

You have a public that doesn’t believe they need to pay for entertainment online (for the most part) as viewing filmed material on the Internet is more akin to watching TV (and is therefore sponsor-supported) than it is to going to the theater. Then you have a Traditional Media business model only works if you have complete control of distribution. As soon as you create a digital file of your work, you no longer have control of distribution. Consequently, TM is not making the money they got used to before the Internet. Freaked out, TM doesn’t want to invest in anything innovative; they don’t even want to use available tech like the touch screen, 360 view, and AR. Sponsors are still shell shocked (5 years later!) that they are somehow going to be involved directly with filmed storytelling and would rather “invest” in some never-will-be-seen-twice reality-based digital initiative than a great story.

I’ve been writing scripts and creating proposals that incorporate innovative distribution, marketing, and structure of the project itself. Nobody wants it. 

I’m burned out on all of that. Out of gas. I’ve created enough proposals, answered enough RFPs, taken enough meetings, and assembled enough diverse contacts to have filmed product for 5 years.

So, fuck it, I’m going to become a computer program developer. I’m auditing classes at UCLA and am going to whatever it takes to get in and attend full-time to earn a BS in Computer Science. 

All the innovation is in TECH. All the money being invested now is in tech. No matter the keywords you put into a job search site, 50% of the openings are for programmers and developers. 

Entertainment is Dead.
