Ben Stein, the economist, professor, personality, spoke at a financial conference last week and addressed unemployment. The point he hammered was the fact that though there are jobs out there, most of those looking won’t take them because they feel those jobs are beneath them.
It made me think about all the jobs that were created by Roosevelt through the New Deal. They were jobs building roads, schools, dams, etc. If those kind of jobs were created now in an effort to get us out of this depression recession, would the out-of-work call down to Mexico and ask them to send more people up here to do those jobs?
I’m generalizing, but we’re different now, aren’t we?
